I am super pumped to finally be sharing this DIY chalkboard today! For it being my first time working with chalkboard paint (shocking, isn't it?), I'm fairly pleased with the results. What makes this extra special is that it's not only a chalkboard but also a magnet board! So you can write notes AND put up cute pictures (like these Instagram magnets I got in my stocking last year) How neat is that?
My finished board is sitting up on the mantel for Christmas but I can't wait to use it for other things throughout the year!
To make your own, you'll need:
- Rough Cut Wood Circles
- Chalkboard Paint
- Magnetic Paint
To start, sand the wood surface (if needed) and begin applying your magnetic paint. Paint 2-3 coats, following the instructions on the container.
After the magnetic paint is dry (about 24 hours), start to apply your first coat of chalkboard paint over the magnetic paint. Let dry for about an hour and then apply your second coat. Again, just follow the instructions listed on the bottle of paint.
After the chalkboard paint has fully dried, prep the surface by rubbing chalk all over the entire surface, then wiping it off with a dry cloth.
Now you're ready to write on your board!
*Helpful Tip: Sharpen your chalk with a pencil sharpener for a finer point. It makes it easier to write and add detail!
And don't forget that you can add pictures + magnets to your board as well!
Any chalkboard enthusiasts out there? I'd love to hear about projects you've tackled this year!
