Our little explorer :: The Arrow House

As I type this, I'm sipping (more like gulping down) a large pumpkin iced coffee while simultaneously dealing with a cranky and slightly disobedient toddler who refuses to nap. It was a long night. Who am I kidding? It's been a long week. Lincoln is still recovering from croup and then I got hit with the plague. I guess it was only a matter of time. I only have the one kiddo so maybe it's a first time mom thing but this bout with croup has been crazy scary. There were a couple of nights I thought I might need to take Lincoln to the emergency room. Good thing I have a calm, sensible better half who intervened and did more than his fair share at trying to comfort our little guy. I married up, you guys.

Anyhow.

It's been a while since I did a personal post or even shared updated pictures of Lincoln. These were taken the day before we found out he had croup and it made me realize just how much I miss him. Yes, he's a busy one but I've missed his laugh and crazy personality. You know your kids don't feel well when they just aren't themselves. And it's so sad. Heartbreaking even.

Well, today I've seen a little more of his personality come back. A tad bit of his adventurous side. And I like it. It's a good reminder for me to love and appreciate all the little quirks my child has, no matter how crazy they may be.

4th of july weekend!

July 4th! :: The Arrow House

Happy (late) Independence Day! I hope you and yours had a great time celebrating. We sure did. And by celebration, I mean a "stay-at-home-all-day-and-do-nothing" kind of celebration.

Don't get me wrong. We love the 4th and all the fun things that go with it, like fireworks and such but we could really do without the crowds. We went to see fireworks last year and the crowds were absolutely craaaaazy. And the show wasn't even that impressive so yeah, not worth it. But hey, if you're someone who lives for those things, go for it. We just aren't those people. No siree.

We'll stick to our kiddie pools, popsicles and sparklers before bedtime.

dinner at the lake.

Jordan Lake :: The Arrow House

Summer is in full swing so my husband kindly encouraged that we get out of the house Sunday evening to explore Jordan Lake. I love that he's spontaneous like that. And since this preggo mama was finally feeling better, I agreed to pack some PB + J's and head off to the lake.

It really was a perfect evening. A much needed break from being indoors. It's amazing what fresh air does for the soul.

And please excuse my thunder thighs and sausage toes. I'm not a big fan of being in a swimsuit while pregnant but who is, right?

Happy Tuesday!

we have some big news...

Pregnancy Annoucement :: The Arrow House

We're expecting baby #2 this December!

Yep. Another December baby. Lincoln was due on the 10th (born on the 9th) and this little one is due on the 11th. How crazy is that? Totally not planned, ya'll...

But we're excited!

This big news partially explains my lack of posts lately so please be patient with me over these next few months as I get back on my feet. More updates to come soon!

Happy Tuesday!

donuts + train rides.

Donuts + Train Rides :: The Arrow House

Saturdays are a favorite around here.

We get an entire day to do something special as a family. Some days we just lounge around the house in our jammies, watching reruns and playing silly, made up games. Others are spent doing things you never expected to be included in your weekend plans. Like spending five hours at the mall waiting for the family car to get fixed. Yeah. Not fun.

But...

Some are just what you need. Nothing can cure cabin fever (or the winter blues) like clear skies, sunshine, donuts and train rides. We loaded Lincoln up with his very first donut (success!) and then explored Pullen Park for the first time. It's a beautiful park in downtown Raleigh with lots to offer. Walking trails, train rides, kiddie boats and a even a carousel! Can't beat all that.
